MY INTEREST IN SCROLLS STARTED AROUND 2017, WITH AN ART-PIECE THAT DERIVED FROM LARGE PEICES OF PAPER ACCUMULATED FROM A WORKSHOP I RAN WHERE WE PAINTED WITH THE BODY. THESE PIECES OF PAPER WERE THEN STORED IN MY ROOM, TIED UP WITH PIECES OF RED WOOL. WHEN THE TIME CAME TO GRADUATE, I WAS FACED WITH HAVING TO TRANSPORT A LOT OF MY THINGS. I DECIDED TO EXTEND THE ART-PIECE INTO A PERFORMANCE ART-PEICE (WHICH STARTED A TRADITION!!). IN CAMBRIDGE, YOU CANNOT WALK ON THE GRASS UNLESS YOU HAVE A CERTAIN STATUS (THIS MAKES SENSE TO SOME PEOPLE). I DECIDED THAT EVERYONE SHOULD BE ABLE TO ‘TOUCH GRASS’ AND SO PERFORMED A PIECE WITH THESE OBJECTS AROUND THE COLLEGE/ UNIVERSITY. IT WAS MEANT TO BE TONGUE-IN-CHEEK, WHIMSICAL… PROVOCATIVE MAYBE.
